The Minutiae of the Infinite
Let the cyclopean vistas crumble into dust,
And the thunderous crescendos of collapsing empires
Dissolve into a hollow, cacophonous gust.
For what is the grandeur of a thousand dying suns,
Or the thaumaturgic bloom of a celestial war,
If not a mere phantasmagoria that swiftly runs
To the periphery of the soul’s desolate shore?
We gaze upon the technicolor tempest, the gargantuan scale,
The bombastic architecture of a mythic, sweeping tale,
Yet find ourselves unmoored, adrift in a vacuum of light,
Where the spectacle consumes the very essence of sight.
The soul finds no sanctuary in the macrocosm’s roar,
In the kaleidoscopic violence of a cosmic chore.
For the eye is easily seduced by the effulgent glare,
By the pyrotechnic vanity of the simulated air;
It is a transient intoxication, a fleeting, gilded trance,
A choreographed chaos, a superficial dance.
The sublime does not reside in the zenith of the storm,
Nor in the monolithic shadows where the giants form,
Nor in the epic trajectories of a hero’s ascent—
These are but echoes of a grand, ephemeral intent.
Nay, the veracity of the human condition resides
In the interstitial silences where the spirit hides.
It is the chiaroscuro of a single, trembling gaze,
Lost in the crepuscular dimness of a twilight haze;
It is the evanescent quiver of a lip, unsaid,
The lachrymose weight of a memory, long since dead.
Look not to the heavens for the profound and the vast,
But to the micro-gestures that the shadows have cast—
The way a hand lingers, a surreptitious, soft descent,
In a moment of stillness, where the cosmos is spent.
It is the susurrus of a breath in a room grown cold,
A narrative of grief, in the unspoken
